Brunch at General Muir

Happy weekend! I hope some of you are enjoying some free time on my behalf, because our weekend will consist of studying. This morning we decided that we should treat ourselves to a nice breakfast to start the weekend out right. Nothing is better for morale than an amazing meal at the start of a day.

Shame on us for not trying General Muir sooner! It’s only a short walk away and has been talked about like crazy since it opened recently. It’s an awesome modern homage to the old fashioned Jewish delicatessen, and it’s hard to find anything to complain about. We had high expectations knowing that the place is owned by the same couple who runs West Egg Cafe, and the same chef who created the famous (if you live in Atlanta) Bocado burger. We were not disappointed!

The atmosphere at this place is amazing. Clean, beautiful decor and a really open space that fills with light from the huge windows. Our waitress was perfect and so was the food. We started with the bottomless coffee, which we knew would be good because it’s a roast made just for General Muir by the coffee magicians at Batdorf & Bronson.

Some of you may have seen me Instagram as we we’re enjoying our caffeine fix (follow me @lawfullyweddedwife!):

For my meal I ordered the poached eggs and grits, which came with roasted mushrooms, madeira sauce, and rye toast sticks. I rarely pass up any entrée with grits. I have to admit that I was skeptical because grits obviously don’t fit into the traditional image of “deli” food, but these grits were THE BOMB. Seriously. As in, some of the best grits I’ve ever had at a restaurant.

My eggs were cooked perfectly and the madeira sauce on top of the grits was heavenly. I would definitely order this again.

Jason got the smoked hash which according the menu is “crisped pastrami, potatoes, cabbage, peppers, caramelized onions, [and] sunny eggs”. He said it was delicious, and it was a generous enough helping that there was even a few pieces of potato that he couldn’t finish.

All around it was fantastic! They also serve lunch and dinner so I look forward to eating other meals here.
