Mr. Golden Sun

I’ve been MIA all week! It was a rough one. It was raining, dark, and gloomy every single day starting Sunday and I was very busy with work and school every day. It’s amazing what grey weather does to your morale…I did have some good food but with very dark and moody looking pictures.

I bought some gerbera daisies from work on Sunday when it first started raining…and BOY am I glad I did! It helped lighten the mood in what was otherwise a very gloomy week.

(oatmeal with blueberries and coconut chips from Tuesday)

(fresh morning veggie juice: cucumber, spinach, apple, ginger, carrots, lemon)

(granola for second breakfast on Wednesday)

(lunch on a very grey day)

Today I woke up and was SO THRILLED to find that Mr. Golden Sun finally decided to COME OUT!

I don’t think I’ve ever been more happy to see him. In Virginia it’s not common for us to have such long periods of ugly weather, and it was not fun.

My flowers look even better in the sun!

It was freezing out today, but that was a-okay because at least there was sunlight to make things more cheerful. There was even some snow on the ground from last night! Very little of it stuck, which is also a-okay with me. After spending 4 winters in Massachusetts (that’s where I went to college), I’ve had my fill of living in the snow. I’ll stick with my warm weather all year and white Christmases when we go up to New Jersey. šŸ™‚

We also got a very special package in the mail today!

Every year I look forward to enjoying a delicious box of Honeybell oranges, a variety of citrus that only grows in Florida in January. The last couple years we’ve gotten them shipped from The Orange Shop, and they’ve served us well again this year with some gorgeous Honeybells!

These are the MOST INCREDIBLE fruit you will ever taste. Seriously. I’ll have to show you the beautiful insides another day when I’m enjoying one and remember to take a picture.

We made the most of the weather improvement by going out to lunch and doing some shopping.

Can you guess which one is mine and which is Jason’s? šŸ˜‰

The two of us separated for a bit so that he could do some confidential birthday shopping (I turn 25 the first week of February!), and I made the most of it by heading to Ben & Jerry’s for some frozen greek yogurt. The vanilla flavor is really good!

Currently I have some tofu pressing on the countertop and a pot of water boiling for some brown rice noodles. I can’t wait for dinner! And I also can’t wait for afterwards, when I’ll be enjoying a sliver of one of these cupcakes that we picked up from our favorite local shop.

I hope the sun is shining where you are!

Thanks for reading!

I was starting to get worried that you hadn’t posted all week! Every time I find myself in a bad mood and can’t really find a reason why, I suddenly realize it’s been a few sunless days. Sunshine really does change your mood. I’ve never been a huge orange eater, but we’ve been buying giant boxes of clementines every week and that juicy citrus snack really brings joy to my day. Enjoy a cupcake for me!
