WIAW- Burn, Baby, Burn

I’m actually posting on Wednesday! Shocking. I’ve decided to give up being stubborn and post my Tuesday eats for WIAW (like everyone else does) because I’m just tired of posting so late at night. I know that this means it’s no longer literally what I ate Wednesday but no one else takes it literally so I’m jumping on that train for the sake of my sanity.

Yesterday’s eats were a little strange! To make a long (very long) story short, I have VERY VERY BAD heartburn that will not leave me alone. It’s clear that I have acid reflux disease (since I was a teenager actually) but I am strongly opposed to taking long-term prescription medications unless they’re needed to save my life. I’ve tried many natural options and nothing has worked for me (not even the apple cider vinegar remedy). If you’ve ever experienced heartburn before, you know how painful it can be. And imagine having it all day, every day, no matter what you do or eat. Yeah. Today I decided that enough is enough and I’m tired of sleeping sitting up and not being able to eat without pain. I’m back on the prescription heartburn medication that my doctor prescribed me. I’m sorry for the ramble but this blog is about my life, and well…this has been my life lately! The burn. So yesterday the medications hadn’t started working and therefore my eating options were very limited. This is a common thing for me. I don’t like to whine about it a lot here but this time the truth can’t be avoided! It dictated my whole day.

Breakfast: pumpkin flax granola, milk

I was going to make a fruit protein smoothie as part two of my breakfast, but I could tell after ONE bite of granola that I was going to have a heartburn issue. Sure enough, once I was finished with the bowl I was already feeling the burn.

Lunch: chicken salad sandwich, water

I was worried that what I was going to eat next would make things worse, but I didn’t want to be a Debbie Downer. Jason wanted to go to The Cheese Shop so I agreed. I had this delicious chicken salad sandwich with mesculin greens that I knew I would regret later.

Snack: banana

Bananas bring me great relief from heartburn! Eaten nice and slowly, it was wonderful to feel better for a bit. So wonderful that I forgot to take a picture until the last bite.

Dinner: slow cooker chicken tacos, refried beans, mexican rice, broccoli and dip, oatmeal with maple syrup and milk

It was apparent pretty early in the day that I would not be able to partake in the dinner I had made for us, unless I had a death wish. Jason enjoyed the chicken tacos (he said they were delicious so I recommend the recipe!) and I enjoyed…oatmeal and some raw broccoli.

Broccoli is nice and alkaline and oatmeal is generally a heartburn-safe food for me. Not my ideal dinner, but it did the job.

The good news is that the meds are kicking in and I’m already feeling better today! Let’s hope this is the LAST time you ever have to hear about it.

Thanks for reading!

Sorry to hear about your heartburn…have you ever tried holistic treatments? Acupuncture? You never know

I haven’t tried that but thanks for the suggestion! I’ll have to look into it.

Oh no, hope you feel better today! I’ve been experiencing bad GI issues myself so a few dinners lately have been completely random [yet satisfying]- at least my husband gets to enjoy them!
