Eating Our Way Around DC

I hope you guys had a great weekend! Jason and I sure did!

We spent the weekend in DC with my girlfriends! We’re done with finals (thank GOD) but I still have a week of work to. However, I’m in no hurry to do it and we really needed some time away. Plus it was Cinco de Mayo, and we were celebrating two birthdays! DC knew I was coming, and there happened to be a food truck festival going on right as we were arriving into the city. 😉 PERFECT.

There were tons of well known food trucks there, and lots of people!

There were dozens of trucks there and so it was very hard to make a decision about what to eat! Our picks included empanadas:

Bahn mi (Vietnamese pork sandwich with pickled vegetables):

Handmade sausage sandwich:

Sweet tea popsicle:

popcorn:

…and ice cream for dessert! I got green tea flavored and Jason got chocolate chocolate chip. Then I was a buff surfer and Jason was a lady.

We all left very full! It was a great time. I think it’s wonderful that food trucks are becoming so popular. It’s a great way support small business and to see all the diverse sides of a city’s food scene. After the festival we went to check out the monuments!

This was Jason’s first time visiting them! I haven’t seen them in a while and they are really incredible. The Lincoln monument is my favorite so the girls took us there first!

The scale of this thing is just amazing and I love the detail in the sculpture. It’s just awesome in general.

We also got to see the new MLK monument, which is really beautiful. And it will be even better when they correct the quote on the side. 😛

From MLK you can see the Jefferson monument across the water! So beautiful.

My friends were real sports taking us around to these places. I know what it’s like to live in a tourist city and have to re-do the touristy stuff every time someone comes to visit, so I appreciate them indulging us!

After doing the tourist thing Jason and I headed to our hotel to get ready for the main event–a Cinco de Mayo party/birthday party for Emily and Katherine!

It was Emily‘s golden birthday this year! 24 years old on the 24th. Awesome. I was 5 for my golden birthday so I will never really experience it! And Katherine’s birthday is coming up later in the month (the big quarter century! :D). They did a great job setting up their place for the party! Lots of cute decorations and yummy food!

And drink up we did! We had a lot of fun. Especially with those mustaches.

I want to tell you about our adventures in Dupont Circle, but it will have to wait for another day. I think I’ve overloaded you with pictures enough for now. 😉

Thanks for reading!

-Lauren

So happy to hear you and Jason had a great time in DC, where I spent much of my childhood. Congrats on finishing another year of law school. 3L will be done with sooner than you think! — A longtime lurker and fellow law student
