Kind of a Bust

Well Jason and I woke up all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning because we were planning to spend the day over in Surry, Virginia. Surry is a short ferry ride over the James River, so only a short drive away from Williamsburg. I started my day with a delicious bowl of oats, with some Nutella and peanut butter melted over top and coconut milk creamer inside.

When I tweeted about what I had for breakfast, So Delicious (the company who makes the coconut milk creamer…their products are amazing!) tweeted me a reply.

Haha I thought that was so awesome! It actually made me hungry again just tweeting it…in fact I could use another bowl of the stuff right now. SO YUMMY!

So we were all set and ready to go, in line to drive on to the ferry, and then it starts to POUR.

Not looking too good right?! I was so annoyed because it was literally BEAUTIFUL and sunny outside up until the very moment when we decided to leave.

I know I look scary, right? I was trying to scare the rain away. Which worked!!! It cleared up after a few minutes, so things started to look good again.

So we got of the ferry and we got to see

and a lot of

and the front of this (the rest was closed)

Aaaaannnd that was it. Yup. It was a bust. I mean…I don’t know if we caught it at the wrong time or what but it was just miles and miles of empty lots and farmland, with a few interesting things that were closed. SO LAME. We were told great things about it so it was pretty disappointing. After getting super lost and exploring more miles of farmland, we decided it was time to head back.

We ended up wishing that we’d spent the day just enjoying Williamsburg, so that’s what we decided to do! We only have one more day here until leaving for the summer so we hit up our FAVE sandwich place, The Cheese Shop.

Jason got his usual, the prosciutto and provolone sandwich on foccacia bread.

And I got corned beef and swiss cheese with sprouts and the house dressing on whole wheat bread.

So. Amazing. We will definitely miss their sandwiches over the summer. And their awesome drinks.

In the photography class over the weekend, Penny talked a lot about waiting for that particular right moment to happen to take a picture instead of just shooting willy nilly. I don’t know if I’ve ever taken a picture that truly captures the kind of moment she was describing. But while we were eating, I was waiting for such a moment. And I totally got one. Well, mostly.

This is Jason in eating action. This would have been a perfect picture to me if 1) the lighting was better and 2)there was more actual sandwich in the shot so you could see what he was eating. But I love that it captures that exact moment when he digs into the food, the expression on his face is priceless.

So we spent about an hour or so just walking leisurely around downtown Williamsburg. We really do love it here. I know we’ll be back in a few months so there’s no need to get sad about it, but I’m already anticipating how sad I will be when we leave after graduation. It’s an amazing town to us. A lot of other students hate it because there’s not the typical “stuff” to do like in other towns or cities, but for two old birds like us…it’s perfect.

Peace out, Williamsburg! We’ll be back soon.

Glad you ended up with a nice day! I wish we had some ferry action going on here. We have ours closed because of the Mississippi River floods šŸ™

I’ve seen about those floods on the news, so sorry it’s happening! Mother nature needs to give the region a break. šŸ™

Aw bummer about the rain. Your breakfast sounds amazingggg though! Random side note: I’ve never been on a ferry that I’ve brought my car on and I feel that would seriously freak me out! šŸ™‚
