Virginia Really Is For Lovers

I admit, I’ve been waiting to use that title for a long time. I was saving it for something good.

Yesterday we went on our annual fall apple picking trip! We took a little road trip and planned a whole day of activities. I even vlogged about the day!

Watch it in HD!

The first stop on our trip was Charlottesville! We set our destination for the Carpe Donut shop, and figured we would find some lunch nearby.

Look who’s bakery happened to be in the very same shopping center!!! Such a hilarious coincidence! (No need to name her, those of you who know the blogger I’m talking about don’t need the reference).

Unfortunately the bakery was closed, so we went ahead and grabbed our donuts then headed nextdoor to Cville Coffee for sandwiches.

I got a “Berry Turkey” sandwich, which was roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, brie cheese, and lettuce on whole grain bread. Amazing combo! I need to replicate this at home.

And of course, the donuts we picked up were DELICIOUS. Well worth going a bit out of our way just to get some! They’re made fresh in-house with organic ingredients, and the care they put into them really shows.

The next stop on our road trip was DelFosse winery, which was near where we planend to go apple picking. It was a small winery tucked away in the mountains and we enjoyed a relaxing one-on-one tasting of their wines.

Their whites were quite good, and we were especially impressed with their Chardonnay and Deer Rock White wines.

After the wine tasting we were off to our final destination! Dickie Bros. Orchards for an afternoon of picking.

Seriously. This scenery could NEVER get old.

On this particular weekend they were offering Fuji apples as the pick-your-own variety. The trees were loaded with beautiful apples and it didn’t take us long to get a good stash.

I said the same thing last year but…I could pitch a tent and live out here. There’s no other place I love more than the mountains.

Jason’s a fan too, of course. 🙂

We had such a great time together. These are memories that we will cherish, I know.

We picked up some of their pre-picked apples to add to our stash and then it was back to Williamsburg to measure our treasure. Over 15 lbs. of apples this year! I can’t WAIT to use them all in different ways. In fact, I’m going to make some apple butter as we speak.

Thanks for reading! There’s more great recipes coming your way soon!
