Exotic Vacation

Hello from Forsyth, Georgia! WHAT is that you say??!! You’ve never HEARD of Forsyth??? Well my goodness. You must be living in a cave.

You may remember me saying that Jason and I had a conference planned for the next week (actually it’s not us who has is planned, it’s the agency we’re interning for). Well that time is here! It’s actually more of a course than a conference, it’s a week long program that teaches basic litigation to new prosecutors. While we are certainly not prosecutors (we haven’t even graduated law school…), our job offered to pay for us to go and get this experience so we jumped on it. We took a half day at work today and after picking our bags up from home we head out! It’s less than two hours from where we live. See? Forsyth is the little green star.

It actually took a little longer than anticipated, lots of traffic! But we were still in high spirits. Especially because I’ve been singing this song NON-STOP for the past three days and it makes me so happy.

I LOVE Adele. I know I’m late on the bandwagon, but I don’t care. I’m just thrilled to be on the wagon at all. I absolutely adore her style, her voice, and just her in general. In the car Jason put on the Pandora station for this song and that made for a VERY happy wife.

We also had a good time laughing at Georgia place names along the way. First of all, there’s the best GA county ever.

See it? Yes that is a truck from Butts county. And of course who wouldn’t want to visit the city of Lovejoy?!

So we finally reached our destination, the hotel that will be our humble abode for the next week.

We’ve got a micro-fridge, awesome!

Then we went to go register at the program, and by the time we were done we were HANGRY. We went to…well, pretty much the only real restaurant in Forsyth. This is by far the smallest town I’ve ever seen in Georgia. But it’s actually very charming (when you block out the confederate flag license plates and whatnot…).

Love the South. So even though there’s only one real restaurant in this town, it just so happens to be a really darn good one.

A place called Grits Cafe could not be bad. They serve upscale Southern dishes, and the whole atmosphere of the restaurant was very cozy and relaxed feeling but not too casual. They have beautiful paintings all over and lots of cute little decor touches.

I got a sweet tea to drink, of course. I told you, I’m addicted. Also I had a feeling it would be fresh brewed and delicious, and I was right.

The house salad was delicious and I didn’t have ANY fruits and veggies today so I inhaled this sucker. It was delicious mixed greens with vidalia onion dressing, roasted pecans, and dried cranberries. Perfect!

And fresh, warm, cheddar rosemary biscuits on the side.

And for dinner I ordered…Shrimp and Grits! True story: On our honeymoon I ate shrimp and grits at THREE separate restaurants. My rule is: If there is shrimp and grits on the menu, I am going to order it no matter what. The rule has served me pretty well so far.

I’ve had the dish at probably 8 different restaurants, and this is definitely in the top two or three. The grits were perfect and there was a warm tomato relish on the side that really added an awesome flavor. Jason got Steak and Shrimp and he loved his meal, too.

I have nothing but good things to say about this place!!! Awesome service, awesome atmosphere, awesome food. The prices were a little steep, but honestly the food was worth what it cost. We got these cute little complimentary chocolates at the end of the meal.

Pretty good first night of our exotic vacation. ๐Ÿ™‚
