Instagram Soul Food Sunday

Happy Father’s Day! I hope everyone had a great one and got to spend some time with, or at least talk to, your family today. We had a great one and tried to make it really special for my Dad. He really deserves it.

I’m glad you all liked Ashley’s post yesterday! She had SO much fun writing it and loved reading every single comment. Things are crazy over here and we’re still having some holiday festivities so I’m going to make this post quick, but I wouldn’t want you to think that I forgot about Soul Food Sunday! It was easier for me to take pictures with my iPhone on this outing I’m about to share with you guys so I couldn’t resist using some Instagram effects on these pics.

Yesterday my mom and I went to this sould food joint in midtown Atlanta called K&K Soul Food.

This was your classic kind of soul food place, the kind that is sprinkled in random places all over the south. It was cafeteria style, which is pretty commonplace here, and the food was AMAZING. Granted, it was pretty much in the ghetto so my mom and I were joking around that we were willing to endanger our lives just to eat some of that awesome food.

I got oxtails with gravy, candied yams, and collard greens. So. Darn. Good. The oxtails were out of this world, tender and juicy and seasoned just right. And the sides were just as good.

We also got apple cobbler for dessert because my mom’s been to this place before and said the cobbler was really good.

I actually got too full to eat it but we brought it home with us and everyone said it was delicious.

They had this beautiful mural along the whole back wall of the restaurant that showed various customers eating and two sweet looking ladies that I’m assuming are the founders of the place.

Except for the sketchy area, this meal couldn’t have been more perfect! Definitely good for the soul.

We’re going back to work tomorrow but I’m hoping to do a post in the afternoon. Homemade blackberry jam is in my future.

Thanks for reading!
