One Year Ago Today

We’re back in Georgia just in time to celebrate something incredible that happened one year ago today!

To me it feels like we’ve been married longer than a year. That’s probably because since the first day I met Jason about five years ago, I felt like he knew me and understood me better than anyone I’ve ever met. A year ago today, the two of us left my house together at 4AM after finishing the decorations on our wedding cake, making a pit stop for energy drinks, before parting ways to prepare for the ceremony that was only several hours away. With my massive wedding dress in one arm (covered because he still hadn’t seen it), I hugged him with my other arm and we said “See you later” to eachother with big smiles on our faces, knowing that the next time would be at the altar.

After years of planning and excitement, I think it was hard for both of us to believe that the day had actually arrived. That we would actually be married, that we would actually be able to be together for the rest of our lives.

When we were pronounced husband and wife, I expected to automatically feel like a different person. I was surprised that instead I just felt completely like myself. Everything seemed like it was exactly the way it was supposed to be.

I am not exaggerating or being sentimental when I say that this has been the best year of my entire life. I’ve loved every moment of making our first home together and experiencing marriage, and I couldn’t be more happy with the decision we made. I feel blessed to have a husband who I trust 100% and who loves me unconditionaly.

I feel blessed to have a husband who washes the dishes every single day without me asking, just because he knows how much I hate it.

I feel blessed to have a husband who will taste anything I cook, and tells me that it tastes amazing even if it doesn’t.

I feel blessed to have a husband who packs an umbrella in the car when the forecast calls for rain because he knows I will never remember to.

I feel blessed to have a husband who wakes up before me on Saturday mornings and makes the best pancakes ever.

I feel blessed to have a husband who listens to all of my horrible renditions of pop songs in the car without ever telling me to shut up.

A year ago today, I made the best decision ever.

People told us that we were taking on too much too soon or too young, but we went for it anyways. And we’re so glad we did. Sometimes you can have your cake and eat it, too.

One great thing about “firsts” is that you get to create your own traditions. This year we decided that one anniversary tradition will be to have a big decadent breakfast on our wedding china every year. I let Jason pick whatever his heart desired for breakfast, and boy did he!

First Anniversary Breakfast

Bacon and cheese omelet, bacon slices, breakfast potatoes, southern style biscuits, fresh strawberries, orange juice

I would love to share the rest of our anniversary with you all tomorrow! And I still have so much to tell you about our trip to Orlando.

Happy first anniversary, Jason! Thank you for being the most amazing best friend and husband ever. I look forward to celebrating many more.
