Hot Sauce Heaven

I thought about letting Jason write this post, because it’s about a place that is essentially his paradise. We took a little trip out to Virginia Beach to visit The Sauce Shoppe, a specialty food store that carries…yup, you guessed it. Lots and lots of hot sauce.

Now, this trip was completely for Jason. He LOVES hot sauce and literally collects different types of sauces and peppers as a hobby. Personally, I’m a wimp even when it comes to black pepper. But being inside this store made me excited anyways.

Holy hot sauce.

Jason was on cloud nine the entire time.

While he looked at which suicidal sauces he was going to buy, I looked around and was highly amused by some of the names and packaging these sauce makers come up with.

The decor of the shop definitely matched the merchandise, too.

Even hot sauce that comes in a little tiny coffin…who wouldn’t want to try this stuff?

In case you can’t see it, that sauce is indeed called “Meet Your Maker”. For those more sane individuals (like myself) the shop also carries a lot of other stuff, like a big variety of barbecue sauces and spices and even honeys.

The owner was so awesome and really knew his merchandise well. He helped Jason to pick out some more sauces for his collection based on what kind of flavors and peppers he likes. Jas loves the flavor and heat of habeñero peppers, but he doesn’t like the sauces that are too spicy to “enjoy the flavor”, as he says. It’s usually hard to find something spicy enough to even phase him, but at the shop he took a little tasting of a sauce that contained pure capsaicin extract (it’s concentrated…not naturally occurring…basically death in liquid form) and he needed a few minutes to cool off after that one. After lots of tasting and lots of looking around, we walked away with a pretty decent haul!

Even a local sauce, made by a bartender in Virginia Beach! Jason tasted it in the store and really liked it.

We even got some potato chips…potato chips that I will not be going near anytime soon.

In summary, my husband had a very good day. I think someone owes their awesome wife a trip to the chocolate store…or the health food store…or the kitchen supply store.

Thanks for reading!
