Early November VA Produce

I’m alive! Not feeling awesome, but I’m alive. Yesterday I sat at home and tried to sleep while Jason went out on a mission to get me some antibiotics. I have to take them four times a day for a couple weeks and then hopefully this infection will be knocked out and leave me alone. At least there was no emergency room this time! ๐Ÿ™‚ I mentioned this on twitter yesterday, but I find it VERY STRANGE that I haven’t gotten a common cold or the flu in SEVERAL YEARS, yet I keep getting random things like this that aren’t common at all. I don’t understand. Seems like if it were an immune system issue that I would get all sorts of contagious things…but I never do. Anyways…enough with sick talk. While I was in a Benadryll coma yesterday, Jason went out and picked up our CSA share for the beginning of this month.

Lovely stuff! I was a little worried when I signed up for the share that the colder months would mean pretty measly produce–but I’m glad I was wrong! The farms do such a great job of getting a beautiful variety of produce to us every time. Most of these things I’ve already shown you from previous boxes, so I’ll just show you what was new this time.

The first thing is a vegetable that I’ve never heard of! Very exciting! It’s called mizuna, which looks to me a lot like arugula and I think it’s supposed to have a similar flavor to arugula.

We also got purple sweet potatoes–another thing I’ve never had!

I don’t really know anything about these potatoes so I’ll have to do a little research on them. They sure are cool looking, though. I’m also excited to try this healthy muffin mix they included:

The ingredient list looks good so I can’t wait to bake up a batch. Also some love looking tomatoes…I know, I was a little confused too. It seems way to late in the year for good tomatoes, but I guess our weather has been pretty warm. The tomatoes look ripe and delicious, but we were told that these really are the last tomatoes of the year.

How about a little trip down seasonal produce memory lane? Here’s what my boxes have looked like, starting at September!

Pretty cool, but I bet it will look even cooler when I have a full year’s worth!

Thanks for reading!
