I’m getting to that point in the semester where EVERYONE is asking me “Do you have a job yet?” “Any interviews yet?” “Any offers yet?”. This is the first time in my life that I’m actually searching for a permanent job, and the process is less than fun. Many of you all know that eventually I want to work in public health policy (ideally food regulation), but right now I just need to find out how to get my foot in the door at some kind of good job. I don’t really care what it is, as long as it gets me good experience and pays reasonably. I go to a great law school and have faith that I will find something (Jason is another story…he thinks the apocalypse is coming after we graduate), but it’s just a matter of time. I met with a professor today who gave me some great tips about the field, so I’m feeling optimistic. Now I just wish people would quit asking me whether I have a job… 😉
In other news, I’ve been really hungry lately. Not sure why and it makes no sense because my weight is actually down. I’ve been taking advantage of my slightly bigger appetite and trying to eat more protein so that I can gain a few pounds back. Here’s how it went down today.
Breakfast: whole wheat toast (one half with earth balance, the other half with strawberry jam), 2 fried eggs, an orange
This is one of those Honeybell oranges I was telling you about that we get special ordered every year. They are so juicy and incredible.
Lunch: baby romaine salad with leftover tofu triangles, french onion soup
We had tofu with nut butter sauce for dinner the other night, so I used the last of it up as a protein for the top of my salad.
I was enjoying the salad so much that I forgot about my french onion soup under the broiler! Slightly burnt, but still delicious.
Snack: Winter Cookieland cookies
The TJ’s where I work was giving these away for free the other day…very bad for my goal of reducing my sugar intake! 😛 But it’s my own fault, I chose to take a box. And now I can’t stop eating them.
(the picture had an error, sorry!)
Dinner: jambalaya with chicken, sausage, shrimp, and brown rice
On nights like this one where I’m working the evening shift (5pm-11pm), I try and cook dinner early and eat as much as I can before I go so that I don’t get hungry during my shift and then get tempted to buy more food (which breaks the bank).
Evening Snacks: dried apricots, trail mix
I always bring a bag of dried fruit and some kind of nut mix with me to work to eat on my break.
Dessert: chocolate
I bought this bar earlier in the week and am trying to enjoy just a little piece at a time.
I’ve got a few more “networking” emails to send and then it’s off to work for me.
Thanks for reading!

Hi Lauren…the job search process can be daunting, but take it one step at a time and don’t get overwhelmed with all the “advice” you are going to get. Value advice from a career professional or a recent graduate who HAS a job…anything else take lightly:)
I can also refer you to a colleague of mine who is a former attorney, now resume writer and career coach for attorneys…pretty cool, huh?
You can always browse my blog for general tips as well…best of luck to you!
