For the past semester I’ve been making the hour-long commute every couple of weeks to extern at the Virginia Capital in Richmond.
I was working for a branch of the state government that develops health policy, and I loved the work I was doing! Health issues are really where my passion lies, and it was great to be able to work in an office where those issues were constantly front and center. Since the semester is coming to a close my position is officially over now, and I had to make one last trip into Richmond today for some final paperwork. I decided to take Jason with me and make a morning out of it!
While I’m in love with Williamsburg and very happy with my decision not to go to law school in Richmond (which was my other option), I’ve totally loved working there. I’m not the kind of girl who likes to live in a city, but I am the kind who likes to visit one ocassionally.
And there’s one thing that Richmond has which the ‘Burg can simply not compete with. AMAZING RESTAURANTS! Even though it’s a pretty small city, I think their food rivals New York City food or even Atlanta food any day. If you ever pass through Richmond, make some excuse to eat there. Today Jason and I ate breakfast at Citizen, which is a hidden little joint just a couple blocks away from the Capital. The food is fresh, local, and incredibly delicious.
I had a veggie filled omelet with toast and a side of wonderful local grits.
Jason had the same meal, but with jerk collard greens as his side dish. We were both thrilled with our food and left completely stuffed.
Thanks for all the great memories, Richmond! It’s been real.
