Mary Mac's Tea Room

It’s been forever since I did a Soul Food Sunday post! Lately I find that my Sunday posts just aren’t related to soul food…but I’m going to make an effort to change that. Today I wanted to share with you a meal we had at a true Atlanta landmark, Mary Mac’s Tea Room.

This place has been serving delicious Southern food since 1945, and they’ve been visited my MANY celebrities, including Presidents and First Ladies, governors, mayors, actors, and just about anybody else you can imagine. We saw Congressman John Lewis eating here on a Sunday afternoon a couple years ago! The celebrity photo wall they have is quite impressive (one of my personal favorites is Richard Gere).

This place is actually where we had our wedding rehearsal dinner! Everyone LOVED the food and we still get comments (now 2 years later) about how great that dinner was.

While we were waiting for food, Ashley drew me a beautiful little picture…

…and a fairly accurate rendition of an incident that occurred when I went to the hairdresser a few days ago. My hairdresser kindly informed me that I had my first grey hair. I kindly was furious.

On this visit, most everyone ordered the famous fried chicken and a wide variety of delicious sides.

I haven’t been in a huge meat eating mood lately, so I opted for the “vegetable plate”. I ordered cheese grits, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and fried okra. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. Comfort food at it’s finest.

One thing I love about this restaurant is the unique bread basket that they serve. All entrees come with a generous selection of cornbread, yeast rolls, and cinnamon rolls. I’m pretty sure you’d never see this bread basket outside of the South!

And of course I had a sweet tea to go along with everything.

The food here has not gone down one bit! Always well worth the visit, for the history and the great food.

As if we weren’t all full enough from carbs and fried food, we made matters worse by stopping my the Krispy Kreme across the street and enjoying some nice, hot doughnuts.

No regrets. πŸ˜‰
