WARA Restaurant Weeks 2012- Part Two

Well it’s official, we are back in school! This first week back is always crazy because you’re still trying to finalize registration and add or drop different courses and it can all be very confusing! I’m still not positive of my final schedule because I’m stuck on a couple wait lists…but I think my classes for this semester are: Legal Skills, Professional Responsibility, Medical Malpractice and Healthcare Law, Environmental Law, Family Law, New Feudalism, and Administrative Law. Trust me, it’s as fun as it sounds. But let’s not talk about school, let’s talk about food. Food is even more fun. We made our second Restaurant Week stop at a place that, as our waiter described it, is the best restaurant in Hampton Roads. I will not argue with him there, we have been wanting to try Opus 9 Steakhouse since we first arrived here in 2010.

Opus 9 is inside the lovely New Town area of the ‘Burg that I’ve told you guys about before. Lots of great shopping and eating all in one place.

Their Restaurant Week special is a 2 course lunch for only $10.12 each! Opus 9 is definitely upscale so that is an awesome deal. I ordered a sweet tea to start with, which I normally wouldn’t mention (I always order sweet tea) but this tea was exceptional. Not too sweet and full of delicious tea flavor. I drank so much of it, our waiter must have filled my glass at least 5 times!

For the first course I ordered the house salad, which was the perfect size for me and had a delicious creamy house dressing.

Along with our salads we were served warm wheat rolls and butter. Both were amazing. Usually butter isn’t noteworthy, but it is at Opus 9!  Our server piped this perfectly soft and wonderful butter onto a butter plate at our table which made it both beautiful and delicious. You eat with your eyes first after all!

For the main course, I ordered the Marinated Portabella Sandwich with grilled zucchini, tomato, provolone, and pesto on toasted rosemary foccacia. Very flavorful and filling, I loved the addition of the pesto!

The sandwich was also pretty huge so I could only eat half of it! Not a bad thing at all, now I have some leftovers to look forward to.

Jason ordered Hickory Smoked Baby Back BBQ Ribs with cornbread and braised collard greens. I tasted a bit of his collards and cornbread and they were both awesome. He said the ribs were great too and he licked them clean!

This place overall was fantastic. The service was wonderful and I love how the menu is sophisticated but still has that “comfort food” feeling. We are mentally bookmarking this restaurant as a potential graduation dinner location (I know we won’t be the only ones!).

So far Restaurant Week is amazing. We’re hoping to hit up one more place for lunch and one more place for dinner before these wonderful deals vanish! For now I’m off to my first night class of the semester…so fun.

Thanks for reading!
