A Holly, Jolly Weekend

It’s been a minute since I blogged last! My old friends EmPri and KJ came into town to visit for the weekend, and as you all know living life > blogging about life. So I took a couple days of a blogging break to just enjoy their company and try to spoil them with food as much as possible! On the night they arrived we enjoyed some of the molasses cookies I made the day before and some freshly baked white chocolate cranberry cookies.

Along with the cookies we had some wassail, a yummy hot spiced beverage that’s perfect this time of year! I’ll be sharing the recipe soon.

I made a new holiday centerpiece to make the house a little more festive this weekend! I love it and will definitely be doing pieces like this in future years.

We stayed up into the wee hours of the morning catching up, and in the morning we were definitely in need of some fueling food. Green monsters all around! Shoutout to KJ’s awesome mom Nancy who reads the blog and makes green monsters herself–she was the one who gave me the idea to put cinnamon inside and now that’s how I make my GMs every time!

After our green monsters I made us some omelets for more fuel and a little protein–inside was mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, and a little gruyere. We definitely started out the day full a veggies!

For lunch we headed to the ultimate Williamsburg “spot”, The Cheese Shop!

I got my usual, a delicious smoked turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread with sprouts, swiss cheese, and house dressing.

We walked around for a bit enjoying the typical scenes of the the ‘burg in the holidays.

We even met the legit old fashioned Santa.

It started to get dark and cold very quickly, so we headed to my favorite coffee shop to get some liquid warmth before continuing on.

KJ and EmPri got spiked coffees that looked delicious.

And Jason and I got lattes, mine was a pumpkin spice chai and it was incredible.

After some hot drinks we took a short walk back through Merchants Square and down to the Palace Green for a show! The houses and palace were being “illuminated” and the fifes and drums were playing.

I haven’t seen a fife and drum show in a long time, they were great!

After the show and the illuminations, we all gathered ’round for caroling!

The musician leading us in song was awesome. He had all sorts of historical tidbits to share with us about the history of popular carols.

The ‘burg is so pretty in Christmas time and we had a great weekend. Come back soon, ladies!
