Organic Local Strawberries

We had quite the packed weekend! I feel like it started early because Thursday was my little sister’s birthday, and that’s when the fun stuff began. I picked her up from school that day and we had a fun girls afternoon together. We went to the mall to get her a birthday dress and then to the hair salon to get her a pretty new ‘do! Then we met my parents at California Pizza Kitchen for her birthday dinner, which was a lot of fun. I can’t believe that she’s 11 years old already!

I joked around to them that I was annoyed at being the only brown person there (it was a bluegrass concert), but I honestly had a great time. Watching talented musicians preform live is always awesome. Plus I was hanging out with pretty much the best ladies in the world.

Saturday morning I got up bright and early for the farmer’s market!

I had gotten home late from the concert so I was VERY tempted to sleep in, but I just kept hitting the snooze button and repeating to myself “Organic local strawberries, organic local strawberries, organic local strawberries…” It totally worked. I was at the market 30 minutes later. 🙂

And I DID get my organic local strawberries, of course! 2 packages actually. But of course I forgot to take a picture because I was mesmerized my all the other pretty produce.

This market is in Virginia Highlands, which makes it the closest one to our house (there are many that happen all over Atlanta on Saturdays). It was my first time at this one, and while I loved it I was a little underwhelmed by the size. I think next weekend I’ll look for a market that has more vendors. But still, a great experience!

Then I went home and Jason and I got cleaned up to go to lunch in Decatur. I wanted a place with a vegan option so we went to Raging Burrito, which has a big menu with lots of options. I got these delicious fajita veggie tacos, one with a tofu filling and the other with mushroom filling. SO delicious! And the weather was warm enough that we could eat outside.

We walked around Decatur for a little while after lunch then headed home to get the pup and visit my parents. My mom invited us over for dinner!

Mom made a ton of great plant-based dishes for me! There was corn on the cob, sweet potato salad, grilled squash, and a delicious piece of grilled “chick’n”.

Everything was amazing! After dinner we watched Grudge Match together (that boxing movie with Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro), which was a really cute movie. Another late night!

We slept in this morning (much needed) and then went to a late service at our church.

As you’re reading this I’m probably on my way to Savannah! Jason’s got a work trip and I decided to tag along for the ride. Hopefully I’ll have some fun pictures to show you tomorrow.

The Peachtree Road farmers market and Grant Park farmers market are both much bigger.
