A Southern Fried New Year

 HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU!

This year we decided to do something fun and a little more exciting than our usual New Year’s Eve activities. You only get to be in your 20’s once, right?

My friends Emily and KJ went with Jason and I to the NYE party at Empire State South, Hugh Acheson’s awesome restaurant in Midtown. We had some delicious cocktails and enjoyed each other’s sparkly company.

Then today we started the new year off right with a huge soul food feast prepared by my mom!

We were welcomed into the house by the smell of cornbread baking and the sound of the chicken frying.

As always, everything my mom made was incredible. The menu included candied yams, fried chicken, cornbread, collard greens, hoppin’ john, and corn fritters with lemonade and sweet tea. Of course I abstained from the chicken, but everyone at the table told me it was to die for.

I love being able to ring in the New Year with my family in Georgia!

Now we’re all exhausted and in a food coma. That’s my idea of a good celebration.
