Prep.

One week from now, I’ll be sitting for the Georgia bar exam. To say that I’m freaking out would be the understatement of the century a slight understatement. If this was law school, I’d be baking a loaf of bread or some cupcakes, taking some nice pictures, and blogging about it to relieve the stress (what? wait, that’s not how you get good grades?). With this, the more I do ANYTHING else but study, the more stressed I become. You don’t even want to know how much sleep I’m getting or how many energy drinks and lattés I consume every day to keep myself going. I’m totes the picture of physical and mental health right now.

In the interests of saving some time and money and making mealtimes less stressful, I took a page out of Lindsay’s book and did some major food prep on Sunday.

At first I was freaking out because it took HOURS out of my study time, but I knew it would save me so much time and work over the week.

Here’s a little breakdown of what I did:

  • boiled eggs for salads, snacks, etc.
  • chopped and steamed broccoli and carrots for stir fry, ramen, omelets, etc.
  • made a vegetarian asian broth for cooking ramen in
  • sliced carrots sticks for eating with hummus or dressing
  • pressed and marinated tofu strips for fried rice, stir fry, etc.
  • chopped tofu for ramen
  • made brown rice for mexi bowls, stir fry, and for the dog (he loves rice!)
  • browned ground beef w/taco seasoning for Jason’s tacos and enchiladas
  • grilled veggies (squash and zucchini) for lunch wraps

YUP, I did a lot. But it’s already saved me so many “Ugh…I don’t have anything ready for [insert meal here]…wanna just get takeout?” moments. In a normal week, I could spend more time on it and get complete meals ready to go if I wanted to.

I baked the tofu last night with fried rice for dinner and I just had the boiled eggs on a lunch salad. So convenient!

Now back to the other kind of prep. The kind involving the law of property easements that makes me want to slam my head into a brick wall.

Thanks for reading!

P.S- Since blocking myself from facebook for the bar exam, I’ve gone Insta-CRAZY! (Huh? What? That defeats the purpose of refraining from facebook?) So follow me on Instagram!!! It’s where the party’s at! It’s where my favorite distraction is at.

I’m not going to even say anything annoyingly cliche like “take a deep breath” or “relax, you’re ready for this” because it used to annoy me hearing it when I was studying for the bar. So I’ll leave it at this: Give ’em hell! Seriously though, good luck to both you and Jason and if the venue in Georgia is as kind as the venue in Florida is, buy yourself an over-priced beer from the vendor waiting for you to walk out those doors after your last day of exams because you deserve it!

When I was studying for the bar I replayed the clip from Finding Nemo of Dorrie’s “Just keep swimming!” scene for motivation. Hang in there!

You’re going to do great, I have no doubt in my mind. Then it will all be over and you can get back to all the fun distractions in your life.

And yay for your insta-craziness of late 🙂

Hi Lauren, I know what pre-exam nerves feel like. I can’t even begin to think of what you are going through in preparation for the bar exam! But I know everything will go just fine and you will back to normal life. Your meal preparations look delicious! And I will be sure to get some ideas from there, as an almost vegetarian living in house with meat-eaters I know how stressful it is to prepare two sets of meals, let alone under study pressure. Good luck with your studies!
