WIAW: Show Me the Protein!

It seems that I spent way too long watching Olympic gymnasts with my sister…I didn’t realize how late it had gotten! I’m not huge on the Olympics these days but I remember how surreal it was when the Olympics came here to Atlanta and how in awe of those women I was as a child. I see the same twinkling in Ashley’s eyes when we watch the competitions, and I love that! Here at the ranch I’m participating in my own sport of sorts. It’s one of my Best Body Bootcamp goals this week to increase my protein intake so that I can gain more muscle mass (aka weight). I was doing a good job with it a few months ago but have been slacking off again lately. No more slacking!

Thanks to Jenn for hosting and coming up with the great WIAW theme for August: summer staples!

Breakfast: granola and milk

I bought 4 lbs. of granola at Costco and I’m LOVING IT. Granola is usually so expensive in those tiny bags but this way I get my quality and quantity for a great price. I enjoyed this bowl with cow’s milk (I KNNNOOOOWWW…I’m shocked too) instead of my typical almond for more protein and it was delicious!

Morning Treats: iced coffee at Dunkin’, half a protein bar (eaten after workout)

Iced coffee is DEFINITELY a summer staple for me! There’s no better way to beat the heat!

Lunch: summer kale salad

Also known as healthful deliciousness at its finest. Recipe to come tomorrow!!!

Afternoon Snack: protein shake that Dad made for me (forgot to take a pic!)

Dinner: multigran spaghetti and meatballs, mixed greens salad

In these meatballs I used ground lamb in place of the veal portion of the meat and thought it was delicious. I know that veal is raised in a particularly unethical manner so I think I’ll make the switch to lamb a permanent one.

Dessert: Fage greek yogurt

Greek yogurt for dessert means ending the day with more protein! It’s my style. Apparently.

Thanks for reading!

I went to a few of the events during the Atlanta Olympics and I was so in awe of everything those athletes were doing.
Keep up the hard work with the protein. It’s something I struggle with, too, so I know how repetitive it can get.

I love kale! But I mostly have just broiled it so that it’s crispy. Really need to check out the salad recipe!
