Awesome Weekends and Wedding Cake Fun

Wow, I have gone a very long time without a post! I cooked a lot but just haven’t had a chance to take pictures or write about it! This past weekend two of my friends from high school came down from D.C. to visit us, and we had so much fun. I got to try some new recipes and enjoy some old ones, plus get some much needed girl time! On Saturday night I made pizza and my friend Becca took pictures.

(Sorry about the yellowness, I think I forgot to take the camera out of daylight mode!)

That’s my friend Emily! She was my maid of honor!

Then…the pizza fail happened.

Yup. I don’t even want to talk about it…hahah no it wasn’t that bad but it was super annoying because I’ve never had a pizza stick to the peele and fall apart like that. Sooo I picked myself up and made another, which turned out perfectly (it’s half pepperoni and half goat cheese).

Next weekend my in-laws are coming to visit and I’m really looking forward to that too! I promise to document that weekend better.

For some reason I’ve been thinking about our wedding a lot so I figured it would be fun to share a little piece of it with you guys. And I think it’s only fitting to share the food related things, right? One cool thing that I think a lot of my guests didn’t know is that I decorated my own wedding cake!

My mom is the pastry chef at a catering company in Atlanta and I spent several years helping her with her bakery business, which included the two of us taking cake decorating classes when I was 13! It was so much fun and I learned a lot that I still remember. Since we had so many guests and we knew we were making the cake on our own, my mom and I kind of split the labor. She baked all of the cake (sooo delicious, I wish had actually been able to sit down and eat it!) and I did all of the decorating. It’s decorated with white fondant and tiffany blue gumpaste and ribbon.

It was so rewarding to have this cake be something that I personally worked on. If I were to do it all over again, I would definitely still choose to do it myself, but I would have tried to organize the timing of it a little better! Trust me, you do not want to be cutting gumpaste at 3:00am on the morning of your own wedding. It may just drive you crazy and give you many nightmares…seriously. But it was all worth it!

Maybe my little siblings will let us make their cakes too!

Thanks for reading!

Beautiful cake. My cake was similar. I had the blue ribbon around the layers but a cascade of orchids going down my cake. That is my favorite flower 🙂

    Love Tiffany & Co!
