The Best Sandwich Around: The Cheese Shop

http://lawfullyweddedwife.com/wp-content/uploads

The Cheese Shop probably doesn’t need much help with its reputation. Every school group, sports team, senior citizens club, and family reunion seems to come through this place, along with the entire William & Mary community. And for very, very good reason. Everything I have ever had there has been nothing short of amazing. The bread is fresh, the meat is thick, the cheese is flavorful, and their special “house dressing” is a miracle. If you ever come through this city, you must try it.

When you go inside things are usually chaos because of all the customers but we were luck enough to go in at a slow time of day. Most of the inside is actually a gourmet food store with lots of lovely and interesting treats.

And then in the back is where you can order your sandwiches!

We could have eaten at the restaurant, but we have a little place we like to drive to where we can eat with a great view. When we have a chance and the weather is okay, we go down Colonial Parkway (the road that connects Williamsburg and Jamestown) and drive along the water. The whole way there and back is so scenic and peaceful.

Then we find somewhere pretty to park so we can eat!

Not too shabby. Now for the good stuff.

Jason ordered what he always does, a prosciutto and provolone sandwich on foccacia bread with marinated tomatoes and house dressing.

I ordered the special of the day, an all beef salami sandwich on whole wheat bread with swiss cheese, marinated tomatoes, sprouts, and sweet mustard. I LOVE their whole wheat bread, it is sooo soft and delicious.

They also make ginormous pickles. (Note Jason’s Gollum hand going for it)

And great drinks that I can’t find anywhere else.

Some of the drinks even come with encouragement.

How did they know?

Bottom line, if you are ever in the Williamsburg area of Virginia this is definitely a stop worth making.

  • Atmosphere rating: 7.5 out of 10 (mostly because they need more seating)

Thanks for reading! I’m on spring break in a couple of days and can’t wait to have time to do some really fun posts.
